Irish lawyer Marie Doyle-Rossi has been promoted to special counsel at US-headquartered law firm Covington & Burling LLP. Dr Doyle-Rossi, who is based in Dublin, joined the firm as an associate in 2010 and was promoted to senior associate in 2018.

Two law firms have merged to form MacAllister McAleese Solicitors, a new full-service practice based in Larne and led by experienced solicitors David McAleese and Kevin MacAllister.

Irish lawyer Mark Quigley has been appointed as general counsel of The ID Register, a global hub for investor onboarding. Mr Quigley, who is qualified as an attorney in New York and a solicitor in Ireland, first joined the company's Cork office as a legal manager in 2017.

A new chairperson will be appointed to the Labour Relations Agency (LRA) in May following a one-month extension to the current chair's term. Economy Minister Diane Dodds yesterday announced that Marie Mallon would remain in place as chair of the LRA board until 30 April 2021.

Mercy Law Resource Centre (MLRC) has announced the appointment of Aoife Kelly-Desmond as its new managing solicitor. MLRC, which provides free legal advice to homeless people and people at risk of homelessness, assists around 1,600 individuals and families per year.

Belfast firm Millar McCall Wylie has welcomed two new trainee solicitors, bringing its total to eight within the last two years.

Mary Keane has become the first woman to serve as director general of the Law Society of Ireland in its 191-year history. Ms Keane takes the reins from Ken Murphy, who retired on Monday after more than 26 years in the role.
