Dublin’s Four Courts has played host to the inaugural Myers Moot Court Competition (MMCC), Europe’s first moot court dedicated exclusively to EU whistleblowing law.

The MMCC, organised by the European Whistleblowing Institute (EWI), is designed to inspire the next generation of whistleblowing law professionals, while paying tribute to Anna Myers, a lawyer and advocate whose work continues to shape whistleblowing laws and practice globally.

Interest was exceptionally high, with 32 teams from 10 countries and 15 higher education institutions registering, and additional teams seeking to participate beyond capacity.

Nine teams from Croatia, Spain, the Netherlands and Ireland advanced to competition day in the Four Courts on Saturday 28 February 2026.

Distinguished academics and barristers from The Bar of Ireland assessed the written and oral rounds before a simulated European Court of Justice.

The final was presided over by Supreme Court judge Mr Justice Gerard Hogan, Labour Court deputy chairperson Katie Connolly and Rosario Boyle SC.

The Law Society of Ireland team of Patrick Quigley and Emma Worrall emerged as winners, with Nina Ginard and Louise Goossens of the University of Amsterdam as runners-up.

The award for best oralist was shared by Monika Medved and Tin Šoštarić of the University of Zagreb, while the prize for best written pleadings went to the Amsterdam team.

The event was sponsored by Arthur Cox LLP, the Irish Employment Bar Association, Maynooth University School of Law and Criminology, City College Dublin and Thomson Reuters Legal Europe.

Organisers also paid tribute to undergraduate and postgraduate Maynooth law students who volunteered their time to ensure the event ran seamlessly on the day.

Event photos by Debbie Hickey are now available on the EWI website.

The EWI was co-founded by Maynooth University’s Dr Lauren Kierans, Dr Vigjilenca Abazi of King’s College London, Dr Dimitrios Kafteranis of Coventry University and Bruno Galizzzi of SaferAI.

The MMCC is part of Project BRIGHT 101143234, co-funded by the European Commission.
