Ireland's largest student-led legal conference returns to Cork for fifth anniversary

University College Cork Law Society is to host the Intervarsity Law Summit 2026 later this month, bringing together law students from across the island alongside members of the judiciary, the legal profession, and academia.

Established in UCC, the Intervarsity Law Summit has grown to become Ireland’s largest student-run legal event and one of the only occasions where law students from across the island of Ireland gather in a single national forum.

The summit rotates annually between universities and has previously been hosted in Cork, Dublin and Galway.

Celebrating its fifth year, the summit is returning to its roots at UCC, taking place on 23 and 24 January at the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork.

Speakers will include presenter, broadcaster and journalist Claire Byrne; EU commissioner Michael McGrath; former Law Society of England and Wales president I. Stephanie Boyce; and Sir Bob Geldof, singer-songwriter and political activist.

The two-day programme includes the Intervarsity Mock Trial final, a national careers fair and sponsored networking lunch, a charity mixer in aid of Nasc, the Intervarsity Moot Court final, and the gala dinner and Intervarsity Ball.

The summit is jointly led this year by convenors Mohammad Naeem and Shauna Dalton, supported by the UCC Law Society committee.

Mr Naeem said: “The Intervarsity Law Summit creates something truly rare — a national space where law students from every corner of Ireland can learn from one another, connect with the profession, and shape the future of legal education together.

“Shauna and I are incredibly proud to be bringing the summit home to UCC.”
