Moya Quinlan, first woman president of the Law Society, passes away

Solicitor Moya Quinlan, the first woman to be elected president of the Law Society of Ireland, has passed away at the age of 99.
Ms Quinlan, who qualified as a solicitor in 1946 and served as president in 1980/81, died at a Dublin nursing home yesterday, The Irish Times reports.
It took over two decades before a woman was elected president of the Law Society again.
Ms Quinlan is survived by her sons Michael, who was himself elected president of the Law Society in 2017/18, and Brendan, as well as extended family members.
Her funeral will take place on Friday at 10am at St Patrick’s Church in Monkstown.
Patrick Dorgan, president of the Law Society, said: “She was a truly remarkable person and will be deeply missed throughout the profession, and wider society. Our thoughts are with her sons, Michael and Brendan, and all of Moya’s family.”
