Belfast trainees win UK Student Mediation Competition

Trainee solicitors at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS) in Belfast have won the UK Student Mediation Competition 2024.

Emiko Seawright of Arthur Cox, Cole Johnston of Paschal O’Hare Solicitors and Sarah Moore of A&L Goodbody, coached by Professor Barbara Jemphrey, beat teams from 14 other universities.

The competition was hosted by the University of Edinburgh and took place from 26-27 January 2024.

The University of Glasgow took second place, with Swansea University coming in third.

Running since 2008, the competition is designed to help law students understand the value of resolving disputes through mediation, develop their mediation skills and techniques, and to better understand the mediation process in general.
