Attracta O’Regan, head of Law Society Professional Training (LSPT) and Law Society Skillnet, has passed away after an illness.

Flags at Blackhall Place are being flown at half-mast in honour of the Law Society’s long-standing colleague and a book of condolences has been opened in her memory, the Law Society Gazette reports.

Ms O’Regan qualified as a barrister in 1995 before transferring to become a solicitor in 2008. She joined the Law Society in 2005 and innovated new forms of education, including overseeing the establishment of the Skillnet training network.

T P Kennedy, director of education at the Law Society, told the Gazette: “I’ve worked closely with Attracta for almost two decades and will miss her so much. She was an incredibly positive force of nature. She had so much more that she wanted to do.

“It’s very difficult to refer to Attracta in the past tense as she was so intensely alive. She very bravely fought and almost triumphed over a cruel illness. She valued people and took an interest in everyone she met.

“She leaves us a great legacy but that’s small consolation for her absence. Our sadness is small compared to that of [her husband] Ultan, her beloved children and grandchildren.”

Ms O’Regan will repose at her home today, Tuesday 4 July, from 6pm–8pm. Her funeral mass will take place at St Fintan’s Church, Sutton, tomorrow at 11am — which will be streamed live online — followed by burial in St Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton.

Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to the Irish Cancer Society or Crohn’s and Colitis Ireland.
