William Fry and Eversheds Sutherland Ireland abandon merger talks

William Fry and Eversheds Sutherland Ireland have walked away from merger talks which would have created one of the largest law firms in Ireland.
News of the talks first emerged in December last year.
A spokesperson for Eversheds Sutherland Ireland said today: “Eversheds Sutherland Ireland and William Fry have been in exploratory discussions regarding a possible combination.
“After careful consideration, we have agreed that the interests of our respective firms are best served by remaining separate.
“Both firms will continue to focus on their individual strategic growth priorities.”
When contacted for comment, William Fry provided a virtually identical statement.
Eversheds Sutherland (International) has said it will launch new operations in Ireland in September, with Pamela O’Neill to lead the Dublin office and Gareth Planck to take the reins in Belfast.
