Law firms battle for fittest title at Arachas team competition
The competitive spirit of Ireland’s legal sector was channelled onto the sports field as solicitors and law firms gathered for the fun-filled ‘Arachas Fittest Firm’ team competition in Old Wesley Rugby Club, Donnybrook.
Hosted by Arachas, the largest provider of Solicitor PI Insurance in Ireland, the event aimed to give something back to Arachas’ clients and serve as a preparation event for the upcoming Calcutta Run 2026.
The Calcutta Run 2026 is a significant, annual legal charity fundraiser that aims to raise €300,000 for the Law Society’s charity partners, Dublin Simon Community and the Hope Foundation. Last year, over 2,000 people raised €325,000 by taking part in Calcutta Run events across the country.
Arachas’ competition saw the combined team of DLA Piper and William Fry emerge victorious. Some of the other Fittest Firm contenders included Carson McDowell, Eversheds Sutherland, and Matheson.
During the evening, the four top coaches leading the teams shared some great fitness advice with participants. The four coaches included:
- Sonia O’Sullivan, Olympian and world champion
- Dave Matthews, Irish middle‑distance record‑holder
- Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, three‑time All‑Ireland winner and one of Cork’s most iconic hurlers
- Patrick McBrearty, Donegal football star, All-Ireland winner, and former Donegal captain
Julie Galbraith, chief business officer & general counsel of Arachas, said: “Our clients tell us that they are always looking for active events to support their employees. Employee wellbeing and health are so important for businesses. With many companies moving to a majority in-office model, with less time spent at home, being active during the working day was becoming a concern for employees.
“We responded with the Arachas Fittest Firm team competition. This was such a fun and important event. We had teams from so many firms, and it was great to see the competitive side coming out on the pitch rather than just in court.
“We are also thrilled that Sonia O’Sullivan is part of Team Arachas for the upcoming Calcutta Run. We learned lots of tips and tricks on how to prepare and warm up in advance. We’re now all looking forward to May 23rd and the run itself.”
The Calcutta Run 2026 takes place in Dublin and Cork on Saturday 23 May and in Galway on Sunday 24 May. Participants can walk or run 6km or 10km.
