Faculty and students at Dublin City University (DCU) have paid tribute to Dr Aonghus Cheevers, who has passed away at the age of 43.

Dr Cheevers, whose research focused on mediation, joined DCU School of Law and Government as assistant professor of private law in September 2019.

Prior to joining DCU, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher on an international project co-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and the University of Leicester examining commercial arbitration in Europe.

He also lectured and tutored students on various private and public law subjects in TU Dublin and UCD Sutherland School of Law, where he completed his PhD. Prior to this, he practised as an attorney in New York for over nine years.

DCU staff and students have paid tribute to Dr Cheevers in an online condolence book.

The School of Law and Government has said it hopes to hold a memorial event for Dr Cheevers “when we can all be physically together again” and would make a donation to Diabetes Ireland in his memory.
