Named in memory of the late Cara O’Hagan, a former partner at Matheson, the scholarship aims to support students who may face barriers in accessing third-level education and help talented individuals realise their academic and professional ambitions.

Open to second-year undergraduate students at Trinity College Dublin, including students participating in the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) and Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) schemes, mature students and others who may experience obstacles to higher education, the scholarship provides financial support, mentoring and professional development opportunities.

As the 2026 Matheson Cara scholar, Mr Taye has enjoyed a place on Matheson’s recent Summer Internship Programme. He will also receive a bursary of €5,000 for each academic year and will have a dedicated mentor from Matheson to provide support during his university journey.

Mr Taye, said: “Coming from a background where many people do not envision a legal career, this scholarship makes it feel immediately accessible and helps to encourage others who may not see the legal profession as a place for them.”
