Maura Dineen has been appointed as country managing partner at DLA Piper succeeding David Carthy.

Ms Dineen joined the firm in 2019 and advises Irish and international clients on tax matters across local and cross-border transactions. She is also a member of the Council of the Irish Tax Institute.

Ms Dineen succeeds David Carthy, who led the firm since it entered the market in 2019. David will remain as a partner in the corporate practice.

Since launching in 2019, DLA Piper Ireland has grown to 130 people based in Dublin in addition to its presence in 40 countries and 90 offices worldwide.

David Carthy, former Ireland country managing partner, DLA Piper, said: “It has been a privilege to lead DLA Piper Ireland from its launch to where we are today, and I could think of nobody better to pass the torch on to than Maura. I am proud of what we have achieved so far and look forward to supporting her as she leads the next phase of our growth.”

Ms Dineen added: “I am honoured to take on this role and grateful to David for his leadership over the last seven years. The Irish market has enormous significance for DLA Piper as the gateway between the US and the EU, and he has built an exceptional platform for continued success, creating a business that combines deep market insight with the strength of DLA Piper’s global footprint.

“We have ambitious plans for the future. As ever, our focus will be on supporting our clients in navigating the ever-changing global and Irish landscape, attracting and developing outstanding talent, and continuing to strengthen our position as Ireland’s leading global law firm. Our ambition is to be the first-choice adviser for clients navigating increasingly complex cross-border opportunities and challenges.”

Daphne Bens, joint managing director for Europe, DLA Piper, concluded: “Maura is an outstanding leader who understands both our clients and our business. In just seven years, DLA Piper Ireland has become a cornerstone of our European platform and a trusted adviser to clients operating across international markets.

“The business has established a strong reputation for advising on complex cross-border mandates, attracting exceptional talent and delivering the full strength of DLA Piper’s global platform to clients in Ireland and beyond. We thank David for his vision and commitment in establishing and growing our Irish business into the success it is today.”
