Lawyers leading the way for women in GAA standing committees

Lawyers Aoife Farrelly BL and Julie Galbraith have been appointed as members of GAA disciplinary committees in a groundbreaking year for women’s representation.

There are now women on all three of the GAA’s disciplinary committees – the central competitions control committee, central hearings committee and central appeals committee – for the first time ever.

Ms Farrelly will sit on the central hearings committee while Ms Galbraith, an employment partner at Eversheds Sutherland, will sit on the central appeals committee.

New GAA president Larry McCarthy had pledged in advance of his election to ensure women were included in all of the GAA’s standing committees, The Irish Times reports.
