Johnsons Solicitors acquires Belfast firm Mackenzie & Dorman
Belfast-headquartered Johnsons Solicitors has acquired long-established legal practice Mackenzie & Dorman.
The Mackenzie & Dorman team joined Johnsons with effect from 9 March 2026 and will continue to operate from their Holywood Road office for the immediate future.
With a history dating back more than 100 years, Mackenzie & Dorman has built a strong reputation for serving a broad client base, with particular expertise in probate and residential conveyancing.
Johnsons, which was established in 1898, sees the acquisition as a natural fit between two firms with shared values and longstanding ties to the local area.
As part of the transition, Jill McDowell will join Johnsons as a partner. Judith Hutchinson will join the firm as a consultant, alongside two additional solicitors, Colin Bates and Robyn Butler, and the wider Mackenzie & Dorman team.
Rhys Jones, partner at Johnsons Solicitors, said: “We are delighted to welcome the team from Mackenzie & Dorman to Johnsons.
“They are a highly respected firm with deep roots in the community and a strong reputation for private client and property work.
“This acquisition represents an excellent strategic fit and will allow us to further strengthen our private client services for clients.”
He added: “Both firms share a long history and similar approach to client service.
“We are very pleased that the Mackenzie & Dorman team will be joining us and look forward to working together as we continue to grow.”
