Dr Mariana Velasco-Rivera elected to ICON-S Council

Dr Mariana Velasco-Rivera

Dr Mariana Velasco-Rivera of Maynooth School of Law and Criminology has been elected to the Council of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S).

ICON-S is the world’s largest and leading learned society for all areas of public law, and membership on the Council is a position of high distinction.

Among other things, the Council provides intellectual guidance for ICON-S, advises the executive committee and represents the interests of members.

Dr Velasco-Rivera is an assistant professor at Maynooth. Her research interests are in the field of public law, specifically, constitutional law, comparative constitutional law and constitutional theory.

In her research, she explores the relationship between constitutionalism, constitutional design and democracy and how political norms and practices shape legal institutions.
