Dr Chloë Cass has joined the European Research Council (ERC) PatentsInHumans team as a postdoctoral researcher.

A graduate of Maynooth University and The Honorable Society of King’s Inns Dr Cass was previously a practising barrister in Dublin and on the Eastern Circuit.

This practice informed her PhD research project ‘Vulnerability, The Neoliberal Legal Subject and the CervicalCheck Plaintiffs in the Irish Personal Injury Process’ (supervised by Dr Sinéad Ring).

Dr Cass’s doctoral project explored the legal construction of the CervicalCheck plaintiff and the impact this had on the plaintiff’s experience as they navigated the personal injury process in Ireland. The project was funded by Research Ireland, through the Government of Ireland Scholarship.

Dr Cass is looking forward to bringing her experience and skillset to the ERC PatentsInHumans project as it aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the potential bioethical issues posed by patent rights – and how these rights are used – over technologies related to the human body.

The PatentsInHumans project is funded by the ERC is led by Professor Aisling McMahon of the School of Law and Criminology at Maynooth University.
