Dentons hires three new partners in Dublin

Global law firm Dentons has announced the appointment of three new partners in Dublin, bringing its total partner count to 10.

The new partners are energy and projects lawyer Colm Ó hUiginn and corporate lawyers David McGuinness and Michael McDonald.

Mr Ó hUiginn, who joins from Sherman & Sterling in London, advises on the development and financing of greenfield projects. He has been involved in large and strategically significant projects within the energy, infrastructure and real estate sectors.

Mr McGuinness joins from Allen & Overy in Dubai, having previously worked at William Fry in Dublin. His practice is focused on private and public M&A, private equity, venture capital transactions, joint ventures and general corporate and commercial advisory. He has worked on a number of major corporate transactions across the life sciences, infrastructure, hospitality and food and beverage sectors.

Mr McDonald joins from Gilbert + Tobin in Australia, having also previously worked at William Fry. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, equity capital markets and investment funds. He has experience of working on large-scale cross-border transactions in the healthcare, healthcare technology, cyber security and energy sectors.

Dentons expanded into Ireland just over two years ago and now employs 26 lawyers in its Dublin office.

Paul Jarvis, UK, Ireland and Middle East CEO at Dentons, said: “Colm, David and Michael join the really exciting cohort of first-class lawyers that Eavan Saunders has built since launching our Dublin business 18 months ago.

“They bring a wealth of experience to the firm, and even more clout and dynamism to a team that has quickly established Dentons as the busiest international firm in the Irish market. These hires, together with the recent promotion of Ciaran O’Boyle, continues our push to expand our pre-eminent corporate offering across the region.”

Eavan Saunders, Ireland managing partner, added: “David and Michael are both technically excellent lawyers who join a corporate team that from a standing start has earned top 10 placings in the M&A rankings, and add some fantastic industry knowledge in some of the most active and fastest growing sectors in our market.

“Similarly, Colm has advised Government ministers and senior executives on large project developments and will help us to leverage Dentons’ leading energy, infra and projects story here in Dublin.

“I’m delighted to welcome them to the firm as we continue to differentiate ourselves, delivering the world’s largest law firm to corporate Ireland.”
