A&L Goodbody delivered over 41,100 pro bono hours in the past three years, with 80 per cent of the firm’s lawyers participating in pro bono work, according to a new report.
The firm yesterday launched its first responsible business report, highlighting the firm’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, social impact and responsible business practices.
The report, titled “Our future with purpose”, reviews the firm’s performance under its responsible business strategy for 2022-2024.
It covers areas including environmental sustainability, community engagement, ESG advisory for clients, support for ALG’s people and pro bono work.
In 2024, ALG undertook more than 325 pro bono matters, with 375 legal professionals contributing over 14,000 hours of free legal advice, the report notes.
The firm also made €540,000 in donations to community partners from 2022-2024, while over 650 colleagues engaged in fundraising and volunteering raised €158,000.
The report highlights the firm’s new Dublin HQ, powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, which supports the firm’s science-based targets to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 per cent by 2030.
ALG has also improved gender diversity at senior levels, with half of promoted partners over the past five years being women.
Managing partner David Widger said: “We’ve been at the forefront of being a responsible business for well over a decade.
“By being the first to introduce dedicated responsible business and pro bono teams, and growing them over the years, we’ve created programmes that deliver real impact in our society and the environment.
“We can look back with immense pride on everything we’ve done so far.”
He added: “While we recognise there’s more we can achieve, and challenges lie ahead as the ESG landscape continues to evolve, we remain firmly committed to our responsibilities — to our people, our clients, our communities and the environment.
“This commitment is not just about doing the right thing, it’s central to how we operate and grow as a firm.”
