Views sought on Northern Ireland race relations framework

Northern Ireland’s draft framework for race relations and delivery plan have gone out for consultation.

The 12-week public consultation commences today and runs until 3 June 2026.

The draft framework sets out a strategic vision for advancing racial equality beyond 2025.

Building on the achievements of the Racial Equality Strategy 2015–2025, and informed by engagement with a range of stakeholders, the new framework aims to reflect society today with a focus on dealing with inequalities through an inclusive, and evidence-informed approach.

First minister Michelle O’Neill said: “We want to build a society where everyone feels respected and valued and our commitment to equality, fairness and justice is at the heart of that.

“This Framework will help guide our work in the years ahead,  with a shared vision of a society where diversity is valued and where everyone can live free from discrimination.”

Deputy first minister Emma Little-Pengelly said: “We want everyone in Northern Ireland, regardless of race or ethnicity, to thrive, contribute meaningfully, and feel a genuine sense of belonging. And this draft Framework represents a renewed and strategic effort to make that a reality.

“Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
