The latest edition of the guide is applicable to personal injury actions settled after 5 January 2026.

It is intended for use in settlements or awards up to £499,000 to allow for easy settlement of professional fees.

The first update since 2016 reflects last year’s significant increase in the solicitors’ hourly rate, which is now £155.

BSA chair John O’Kelly said the figures in the guide “have been arrived at following consultation with two costs drawers who took into account the new hourly rate”.

The BSA committee welcomes feedback from members on the new guide, he added.
