Two nominated for appointment to High Court

Mark Dunne SC and Micheál O’Connell SC

Mark Dunne SC and Micheál O’Connell SC have been nominated for appointment to the High Court bench.

The pair will fill vacancies arising from the elevation of Mr Justice Alexander Owens to the Court of Appeal in September and the upcoming retirement of Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring.

Mr Dunne called to the bar in 1998 and took silk in 2019, having been educated at University College Dublin and the King’s Inns.

His legal practice has mostly included administrative law, commercial/chancery, dispute resolution, general common law, judicial review, and tort and personal injury law.

Mr O’Connell called to the bar in 1999 and took silk in 2018, and was educated at Trinity College Dublin and the King’s Inns.

His main areas of practice include commercial/chancery, general practice, and conveyancing and property law.

The government says it has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Connolly of the nominations in accordance with constitutional practice.
