This year’s conference, which takes place in the SYS’s 60th anniversary year, takes place on Saturday 11 October at the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny.

The theme for this year is “Client, Court, Conscience: The Ethical Balancing Act for Young Lawyers”.

The day will comprise a full programme of CPD sessions on ethics and the legal profession, followed in the evening by a celebration drinks reception, gala dinner and black-tie ball to mark the SYS’s 60th anniversary.

Mr Justice David Barnville, president of the High Court, has been announced as the keynote speaker.

He will be joined by a distinguished panel including:

• Geraldine Clarke SC, member of the IBA Professional Ethics Committee Advisory Board, former board member of the Legal Services Regulatory Authority, and former president of the Law Society of Ireland;
• James MacGuill SC, former president of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), former board member of the Legal Services Regulatory Authority, and former President of the Law Society of Ireland; and
• Joan Crawford, CEO of the Legal Aid Board.
