NI: Schoolboy drops damages case against Google

A 15-year old schoolboy from Co Antrim has dropped a claim for damages against Google, the High Court in Belfast has heard.

At a brief hearing yesterday, lawyers for the boy said he no longer wanted to sue the search engine giant for negligence.

The legal action was launched after the boy was named by media outlets in connection with last year’s high-profile TalkTalk hack.

He alleged that his privacy had been breached by reports that police were questioning him in connection with the incident. No charges were ever brought against him.

Earlier this year, he settled a similar privacy lawsuit against social media platform Twitter on confidential terms.

He is still bringing legal action against The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail and The Sun.
