Solicitor Moninne Griffith has joined Community Foundation Ireland as director of impact, grants and donor care.
Ms Griffith brings over two decades of experience across law, policy and civil society to the role, which oversees the disbursement of more than €25 million per year in philanthropic grant-making to deliver a mission of “equality for all in thriving communities”.
A qualified solicitor, she began her career in legal practice before transitioning to advocacy, where she led the historic marriage equality campaign in Ireland, culminating in the successful referendum for same-sex marriage in 2015.
She was chief executive of Belong To LGBTQ+ Youth Ireland and is committed to building a society where all young people are equal, safe, and thriving.
Denise Charlton, chief executive of Community Foundation Ireland, said: “Achieving our mission requires strategic interventions to support our network of 5,000 voluntary, community and charitable partner organisations.
“As a foundation we are delighted that Moninne will share her extensive knowledge and insights to drive that work forward.
“She is joining the team as we are using our 25th anniversary to reflect on the growing contribution Irish philanthropy can play in partnering with communities to address a whole range of challenges.
“In addition to her knowledge, Moninne brings the passion, energy and commitment needed to deliver equality. The team is looking forward to working with her.”
Ms Griffith said: “Community Foundation Ireland and Irish Philanthropy continue to make a unique and valuable contribution.
“I have seen at first hand the difference it can make in transforming the lives of young people, including those in the LGBTQI+ community. It is often there to provide support, solidarity and resources when others can’t.
“It also allows projects to go ahead which otherwise would not happen. I have been privileged to witness that transformative power daily through my work in civic society, most recently with Belong To.
“I now look forward to be part of that work from a fresh and new perspective.”
