The Law Society of Northern Ireland has warned solicitors to be wary of ransomware targeting businesses and organisations.

According to Queen’s University Belfast, ransomware is a type of malware, typically launched via email, which ‘locks’ the files on a computer and then demands payment to unlock them.

They can cause significant damage and loss of important data.

In a statement published online, the Law Society said: “It is critically important that you and all of your staff are aware of what ransomware looks like and how to protect against it.”

More information about ransomware is available from the QUB website.
