Laganside Magistrates Court moves to remote hearings amid Fleadh disruption

The Lady Chief Justice for Northern Ireland, Dame Siobhan Keegan, has issued a notice that legal practitioners may take part in proceedings before Laganside Magistrates Court remotely, without the need to seek prior permission of the court, due to the traffic disruption caused by road closures in place for the Belfast Fleadh.
These temporary arrangements cover the period of 2nd to 9th August and include remands, mentions and overnight charge cases before the Criminal and Youth Courts. They also cover mentions and review hearings in the Family Proceedings Court and Domestic Proceedings Court, unless otherwise directed by the presiding judge.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is the world’s largest celebration of Irish music and culture and is being hosted in Belfast for the first time from 2nd to 9th of August.
While up to 800,000 people are expected to attend the event significant traffic disruption is expected to be caused by the temporary pedestrianisation of Belfast city centre for the duration of the festival.
