Northern Ireland firm JMK Solicitors has grown to 100 staff members for the first time after welcoming 10 new legal advisors, legal administrators and apprentice solicitors since the start of the year.

The personal injury specialist firm was established in 2003 and provides services from offices in Newry, Derry and Belfast, with a fourth office set to open in the capital next month.

Maurece Hutchinson, the firm’s managing director, said: “One of our core values is to focus on making people our priority, which applies to our clients and our team.

“As we consolidate our number one position in the personal injury legal services market, we feel it is important to continue to invest in and expand the expertise in the business across all areas, to ensure we are providing a personal service to each client.

“As businesses emerge from the pandemic, a lack of trained and experienced staff has two impacts that can damage the firm — overworked and stressed staff which leads to a reduction in client care or customer service.

“Our commitment to adding people in key roles has the double positive effect of meaning we have high levels of morale and engagement from our staff and our clients reap the benefits by not having to worry about what is happening with their case at what can be a very concerning time when recovering from an injury sustained in an accident that was not their fault.”

Michelle Murphy, head of operations and HR, added: “It has always been important for us to attract the best people to work at JMK.

“One of our key differentiators as a business, and how we have been able to add 10 additional staff members in the last two months, is our four-day working week, which we implemented in January 2020. We reduced full-time hours from 37.5 to 30 hours, with no reduction in pay.

“Achieving work-life balance has never been more important for job seekers, and I am delighted it is something we are able to offer new recruits which means we can continue to maintain our high level of service for clients.”
