The deputy leader of the Green Party in Northern Ireland has announced her planned resignation to study environmental law at the University of Dundee.

Tanya Jones, who succeeded South Belfast MLA Clare Bailey in the post in October 2017, practiced as a solicitor in England before moving to Fermanagh.

She revealed her plan to quit and return to higher education at the party’s conference over the weekend, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Ms Jones said: “In September I’m planning to join the substantial GPNI diaspora in Scotland and begin a master’s degree in environmental law at the University of Dundee.

“Where that will lead me, I don’t yet know. I hope it’ll be back here. This is home now, and there’s certainly plenty to be done.”
