And finally… Holy See red over eBay

Holy relics including St Thomas’ finger and the head of St Catherine must not be sold, the Vatican has decreed.

The Holy See has promulgated new guidelines for the preservations of saints’ remains, which were once the subject of busy trade during the Middle Ages, The Telegraph reports.

Saintly relics are routinely offered online but the Holy See has said their sale is “absolutely prohibited”.

The Congregation for the Causes of Saints also decreed that the dismemberment of saints is forbidden – without the Vatican’s permission.
