A native of Dunmore, Mr Fahy attended IWC Dunmore and became a barrister after obtaining a first-class honours degree in economics from University College, Dublin. 

Called to the Bar in 1975, he practised on the Western Circuit, primarily in criminal law, and lectured in evidence at University College, Galway. He was the Father of the Bar on the Circuit until his retirement a few years ago.

He is remembered by colleagues as “a wonderful barrister of the highest order”, a skilled advocate and “a true gentleman” with a keen sense of humour and strong support for new lawyers joining the Circuit.

Solicitor Francis Treanor, commenting on LinkedIn, said: “His words were those of a man who understood the profession and was willing to share the benefit of his experience with those coming after him.

“Conor was a respected practitioner and, more importantly, a kind and generous colleague. I feel privileged to have known him and to have had the opportunity to work alongside him.”

Mr Fahy is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Rebecca and Catherine and his brother Tom.

Mr Fahy’s funeral mass took place this morning at St Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road, Galway with burial afterwards at Rahoon Cemetery.
