A&O Shearman has raised £66,090 for the Northern Ireland Hospice and Children’s Hospice following a successful two-year partnership, surpassing its original fundraising target by almost 50 per cent.
The firm’s people in Belfast exceeded the original £45,000 target through fundraising initiatives and also provided almost 600 hours of hands-on volunteering support.
The Northern Ireland Hospice provides specialist respite, symptom management, and end-of-life palliative care to over 4,600 infants, children, and adults each year across the region.
Simon Wagstaff, managing director, technology services and social impact champion, A&O Shearman, said: “Looking back over the last two years, what stands out most is how much our partnership with Northern Ireland Hospice has meant to our people. Through fundraising, volunteering, and hearing first-hand about the Hospice’s work, we have gained a much deeper understanding of the vital support it provides to patients and families across Northern Ireland.
“Supporting the Hospice has brought us together around a shared cause. Hearing personal stories from colleagues who have experienced its services has been particularly powerful, opening up conversations and reinforcing our values of compassion, inclusion, and support for wellbeing.
“Thank you to everyone who has played a part, particularly the members of our social impact committee for coordinating our efforts. Most importantly, our thanks go to the Northern Ireland Hospice; it’s been a privilege to support their work.”
The total was achieved through events led by the firm’s people over the past two years, including pre-loved clothing sales, bake-offs, and marathons. Volunteering served as another cornerstone of the initiative, with over 100 volunteers supporting local Hospice shops, street collections, and events, alongside maintaining the gardens at the Northern Ireland Hospice facilities.
Conal Duffy, chief income officer at Northern Ireland Hospice, added: “On behalf of everyone at Northern Ireland Hospice, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to A&O Shearman for their incredible support over the past two years. Raising over £66,000 is a remarkable achievement, and what makes it even more special is the commitment, creativity, and enthusiasm they have shown every step of the way, as well as giving almost 600 hours of their time to volunteer.
“This generosity will make a very real difference to the lives of local families. Every year, the Northern Ireland Hospice care for over 4,600 people in our adults and children’s hospice facilities, and in homes across the community. £66,000 will help us to continue to provide expert, compassionate support to people across the community when they need us most.”
