Co Dublin firm Shannons Solicitors has announced the appointment of barrister Orla Martyn to head the firm’s new immigration law department.

The firm, based in Swords, is now offering a full range of immigration law services, including solutions for British nationals living in Ireland whose status is affected by Brexit.

The department also provides advice on immigrant investor and entrepreneur schemes, visas, citizenship, passports, work permits, family reunification and other key issues.

Senior partner Vincent Shannon told Irish Legal News: “The impetus for the launch of this service was the number of enquiries we have had over the years from clients and others to assist them in their dealings with all matters of immigration law.

“There is a large non-Irish population in Swords and Fingal and to serve their needs we have recruited barrister Orla Martyn, who has many years of experience in this area.”

Ms Martyn studied at the King’s Inns and called to the Bar in 1994. Until 2007, she practised as a junior counsel specialising in child and family law.

In 2007, she joined the Office of the Attorney General as advisory counsel, where she was primarily involved in immigration and asylum matters. A year later, she was seconded to the Department of Justice as the sole legal advisor to the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS).

Ms Martyn returned to the Office of the Attorney General in 2014, primarily advising on matters relating to animal health and welfare, prior to her appointment at Shannons Solicitors at the end of July.
