Sinn Féin event to focus on 'rights in a new Ireland'

A range of human rights experts including Professor Colin Harvey are set to address a Belfast conference organised by Sinn Féin’s Commission on the Future of Ireland next month.

The ‘Rights in a New Ireland’ conference will be chaired by Ailbhe Smyth, who played a key role in the marriage equality and abortion referendums, and hear from speakers including Professor Harvey, Dr Shannonbrooke Murphy and Daniel Holder.

The free event will take place in St Comgall’s/Ionad Eileen Howell, Belfast, on Friday 3 May, 11am-1pm.

Declan Kearney, chairperson of the Commission on the Future of Ireland, said: “I am extending an invitation to policy makers, activists, researchers, experts, scholars, academics, public commentators and all those interested to attend this event which will take place in St Comgall’s on 3rd May.

“With this significant event the Commission seeks to discuss the subject of people’s rights and how they could best be guaranteed in the new united Ireland.”
