QUB students emerge winners of 2023 International Negotiation Competition

Queen’s University Belfast students Jessica Rae-Anne Richards and Ciara Ambrose have triumphed in the 2023 International Negotiation Competition (INC), hosted by the European Law Students’ Association Ireland at Maynooth University.

Teams from all over the world were welcomed to Maynooth for the competition from 31 March–2 April 2023.

Those competing included teams from Georgetown University Law Centre, National Law University Jodhpur, O.P. Jindal Global University, University of Galway, Queen’s University Belfast, National Law University Delhi, National University of Juridical Sciences Kolkata, Dublin City University, National Law School of India University Bengaluru, Ulster University and University College Cork.

In the final, Ms Richards Ms Ambrose from Queen’s University Belfast Alternative Dispute Resolution Society prevailed over Mridula Ganesh and Kavya Sreekumar from National Law University, Jodhpur. Ms Sreekumar was also awarded with the award of Best Speaker.

Tomas Murdoch and Niall Petticrew from Ulster University were awarded with the ELSA Ireland Spirit of ELSA award. Aaron Johnson and Nicole Kerr from Queen’s University Belfast ADR Society were awarded with the DX Ireland Prize for Best Team Collaboration.

ELSA Ireland thanked sponsors DX Ireland and the School of Law and Criminology at Maynooth for their financial support during the competition.

The association also thanked ELSA Maynooth for being the host for the INC, and especially ELSA Maynooth president Gráinne Honer and Maynooth VP of Competitions Anna Bradish for their work.

Niko Kawonczyk, ELSA Ireland vice-president with responsibility for competitions, said: “The ELSA Ireland International Negotiation Competition is designed to foster the skills of negotiation in students and recent graduates of law at an early stage in their careers and to provide the opportunity to gain first-hand negotiation experience.

“We were delighted to welcome teams from all across the world to Maynooth for three days to compete in the 2023 INC which was the biggest competition in ELSA Ireland history.”
