Barrister Nicole Lappin has been appointed as a Northern Ireland non-executive board member to the Human Tissue Authority (HTA).

The HTA is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care in England.

It regulates the removal, storage, use and disposal of human bodies, organs, and tissues for various purposes, including research, transplantation, education, and training.

The HTA ensures that human tissue is used safely and ethically, with proper consent, and oversees compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2004, which applies to England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

It issues licenses and inspects organisations that remove, store, and use human tissue to uphold the standards set by HTA.

Ms Lappin has been appointed by Northern Ireland’s health minister, Mike Nesbitt, for a three-year term ending 11 September 2028.
