Newry court business relocated due to flooding

Court business in Newry has been relocated to Craigavon as a result of flooding.

The banks of Newry Canal burst on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall from Storm Ciarán, putting parts of the city underwater.

Northern Ireland’s Department of Justice said the courthouse has been closed as “a temporary measure to allow for remedial works to take place and to make sure the staff and public are kept safe”.

The Department added: “Court business will return to Newry Courthouse as soon as possible.

“The Department of Justice is working to minimise any disruption to service and will provide updates as necessary.”
