Matheson has recruited Marie McGinley as a partner in the firm’s technology and innovation group, which she will lead from the beginning of next year.
A recognised leader in the technology and data protection sector, Ms McGinley’s expertise is in technology regulation, including AI, outsourcing, commercial contracts, information law and data protection.
She also brings extensive experience in cyber security, crisis management, intellectual property and consumer law.
From 1 January 2026, she will become head of the technology and innovation group, succeeding Anne-Marie Bohan, who has led the group since 2017.
The group has also recently added two new solicitors — Bridget Howard and Stephanie McCarthy — to the 20-strong team, which is led by four partners.
Matheson chairperson Patrick Spicer said: “We are delighted to be joined by Marie McGinley as partner and, from January 2026, as head of our technology and innovation group.
“Her appointment reflects our commitment to excellence and innovation in how the firm serves our internationally-focused multinational and domestic clients, and is an endorsement of the continued success of our business and people strategies.
“We also extend our sincere appreciation to our partner, Anne-Marie Bohan for her dedicated leadership and enormous contribution to the development of the technology and innovation group, which under her tenure has become the market leader in its field and which has been a key part of the firm’s growth over the past 10 years.”
David Fitzgibbon, co-head of Matheson’s corporate department, added: “Matheson’s technology and innovation group has established itself as a market leader in navigating complex regulatory issues involving emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital assets and crypto.
“Marie’s deep sectoral expertise and leadership skills will undoubtedly enhance our ability to deliver innovative, future-focused solutions to our clients.
“We look forward to working with Marie and her team to continue our tradition of excellence and to help our clients succeed in a rapidly evolving digital economy.”
Ms McGinley said: “I’m thrilled to join the technology and innovation group at such a pivotal time for the technology sector, and it is an honour to be entrusted with leading such a talented and successful team.
“The pace of change in areas like AI regulation, data protection, and cyber security is unprecedented, and it presents both opportunities and challenges for our clients.
“I look forward to working alongside my colleagues in the technology and innovation group and across Matheson to help our clients navigate complexity, unlock innovation, and build resilience in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.”
