Major human rights conference at University of Limerick
An international conference on the protection of human rights is to be held at the University of Limerick this month.
The Council of Europe Steering Committee on Anti-discrimination, Diversity and Inclusion and the European Centre for the Study of Hate at the University of Limerick will co-host the conference on 28-29 May 2026 entitled “Challenging Hate: Protecting Human Rights and Strengthening Democracy”.
The conference will feature opening addresses by Judge Úna Ní Raifeartaigh; and Kathlin Sander, chair CDADI. It will feature over 70 papers and plenary speakers will include Professor Barbara Perry, the UNESCO chair in hate studies; Professor Kehinde Andrews; Professor Mark Walters; Rachael Moore (ILGA); Dr Robert Orell; Dr Sindy Joyce; Ciaran O’Connor from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue; and members of the CDADI and of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on Hate Crime.
The conference seeks to explore how we can promote inclusion and diversity in society; how hate and prejudice impact individuals, communities, and societies; and understand pathways to prejudice and hate. It will be of interest to those working in the areas of discrimination and equality law; as well as criminal law.
