Irish solicitor Lisa Quinn O’Flaherty and Northern Ireland barrister Orlagh Kelly have been recognised in a new report as “trailblazers in the law”.

The pair are among 23 women leaders named in the 2023 Women Who Will report published by Obelisk Support in partnership with Next 100 Years, the project dedicated to achieving equality for women in law.

Now in its fourth year, the report shines a light on the exceptional women in law who demonstrate leadership, vision and action in the legal community.

Ms O’Flaherty is a partner at Fitzsimons Redmond LLP, becoming the first woman partner in the Dublin-based firm in 2021. On top of her work as a business solicitor, she heads the firm’s pro bono department.

Ms Kelly, who was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2003, is the co-founder and CEO of Belfast-based GDPR consultancy Briefed.

Writing in the foreword to the report, Lubna Shuja, immediate past president of the Law Society of England and Wales, said it was important to “give a voice to those women who are often overlooked or underestimated”.

She continued: “The Women Who Will report contains stories to not only inspire but also motivate us to be our best selves, to ignore those negative voices, those doubting thoughts and to simply focus on how to get to where we want to be, at our own pace and on our own terms — because yes, we can!

“There are so many women out there who already have, and so many more who can. Let’s support each and every one of them to be the absolute best and be Women Who Will.”
