Limerick solicitors step up for local charities as pandemic hits funding

Derek Walsh

The Limerick Solicitors’ Bar Association (LSBA) has supported seven local charities with donations worth €21,000 in response to the coronavirus crisis.

The association has donated €3,000 each to charities Pieta House, ADAPT, Friends of the Elderly, St Munchins Community Centre, Novas, Barnardo’s and Rape Crisis Midwest Centre.

Acting secretary Derek Walsh said: “It is a challenging time for everyone, however this is particularly the case for charitable organisations who rely on fundraising events, volunteers and donations from sponsors.

“Many of these organisations have been forced to cancel major fundraising events in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a funding gap for many of these organisations.”

He added: “It behoves us as an association to respond with generosity to these organisations and, to this end, the committee has deemed it necessary to make an immediate donation in the total sum of €21,000.”
