Kneecap member charged with terrorism offence

A member of Belfast rap trio Kneecap has been charged with a terrorism offence by the Metropolitan Police in London.
Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, 27, is accused of breaching section 13(1)(b) and (3) of the Terrorism Act 2000 by allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a Kneecap concert in London in November 2024.
An investigation was launched by Met’s counter terrorism command in April after a purported video from the event began circulating online.
Hezbollah has been fully proscribed as a terrorist organisation under UK law since 2019, though parts of the organisation have been proscribed since 2001.
Mr Ó hAnnaidh, who uses the stage name “Mo Chara”, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18 June.
