NI: Judge transferred ‘extreme porn’ case because she did not feel able to deal with it

A judge transferred a case involving possession of extreme pornographic images to another jurisdiction because she did not feel she could deal with the content, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Darran Peter Andrew Callaghan, 29, originally appeared before Omagh Magistrates Court in April facing 14 charges, all but one of which relate to videos found on a mobile phone.

Before the trial began, the sitting judge decided she would not hear the case and transferred it to Dungannon Magistrates Court.

District Judge John Meehan was advised by Mr Callaghan’s lawyers that the sitting judge did not feel she could deal with the mater.

Judge Meehan agreed to the move and adjourned the case for a new hearing date to be fixed.
