Irish lawyers nominated at Inspirational Women in Law Awards

Barristers and legal academics from both sides of the Irish border are among the finalists at the Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2021.

Mary-Rachel McCabe and Emma McIlveen, both barristers from Northern Ireland, have been named as finalists in the Under-35 Lawyer of the Year category.

Ms McCabe practises in London with Doughty Street Chambers and was recently involved in a high-profile pro bono case concerning an Irish language epitaph on a Coventry gravestone.

Ms McIlveen is an employment law specialist qualified to practise in Northern Ireland, Ireland and New York. She accepts instructions in Great Britain through Broadway House Chambers.

Professor Aoife Nolan, a human rights professor at the University of Nottingham and an academic member of Doughty Street Chambers, is a finalist in the Legal Academic of the Year category.

Since graduating with an LLB from Trinity College Dublin in 2000, she has become a prominent expert in human rights, particularly in relation to economic and social rights and children’s rights, as well as on constitutional law.

The Inspirational Women In Law Awards, organised by Next 100 Years, seek to identify individuals from across the legal profession who are leading the way in improving equality and diversity.

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced at an online ceremony on 3 November 2021. Free tickets are available via Eventbrite.
