A pair of trainee solicitors from the Solicitors’ Apprentice Debating Society of Ireland (SADSI) have triumphed in the 63rd Irish Times Debate.

Ailbhe Noonan of Arthur Cox and Gavin Dowd of A&L Goodbody emerged on Friday as winners of the longest-running debate competition of its type in Ireland, The Irish Times reports.

Students debated the motion that “this house believes it is time for people of the EU to directly and democratically elect a president of the European Commission”.

Other contestants in the final included Laura Campion and Sara Rafter of UCD LawSoc.
