Ibec to sponsor Dublin European Law Institute for three years
Business group Ibec is to sponsor the Dublin European Law Institute (DELI) at Dublin City University under a new three-year partnership.
The sponsorship deal will support the DELI’s critical research and policy work in the field of European defence, industrial policy, economic competitiveness and prosperity.
It will begin from February 2026, just ahead of the beginning of Ireland’s presidency of the EU Council.
Professor Federico Fabbrini, full professor of EU law and founding director of the DELI, said: “The sponsorship by Ibec confirms the international standing of the DELI as an academic centre of excellence for research on EU law and policy, and cements our role as a key partner for industry and public institutions on European affairs.
“I am very grateful for the financial support that Ibec agreed to give us, which will empower us to strengthen our cutting-edge work at a critical time for the future of Europe and transatlantic relations.”
Jackie King, executive director of Ibec Global, said: “Ibec is delighted to be supporting critical research and policy work in the fields of European defence, industrial policy, economic competitiveness, and prosperity.
“As Ireland prepares to assume the EU Presidency, there is a real opportunity to influence the EU agenda and strengthen the country’s role within the Union by leading key legislative discussions, chairing Council meetings at ministerial and official levels, and representing the Council in negotiations with other EU institutions.
“While Europe faces challenges from war on its borders, energy insecurity, and growing geopolitical fragmentation, there are also many opportunities to develop the potential of the single market, maximise trade and investment, and enhance EU competitiveness.
“This includes preparing for evolving skills needs — particularly in digital and AI — and emphasising the growing importance of security and defence for business.”
Professor Derek Hand, executive dean of DCU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, said: “I am delighted that the Dublin European Law Institute (DELI) is partnering with Ibec.
“This sponsorship ensures that the importance of European economic law and Irish business competitiveness is recognised.”
