Hogan Lovells to merge with US firm Cadwalader

Hogan Lovells and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft are to merge in what has been described as the largest law firm combination in history.

The combined firm, Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, will be the world’s fifth-largest law firm by revenue, with annual revenue in excess of $3.6 billion and a team of 3,100 lawyers.

Hogan Lovells was among international law firms which established a base in Ireland in the wake of Brexit.

The firm’s Dublin office is led by Eoin O’Connor and focuses on financial regulatory and antitrust/competition law advice.

In a statement, Hogan Lovells and Cadwalader said the merger “will bring unmatched finance, corporate, regulatory, and disputes capabilities to clients in financial markets, particularly across the critical New York–London corridor”.

“With 3,100 world-class lawyers across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, the combined firm will serve clients in every major financial market,” they added.

“Hogan Lovells Cadwalader will have unmatched strengths across finance, corporate, regulatory, IP, and disputes, positioning the combined firm to represent the world’s leading financial institutions, multinational corporations, private capital funds, and sovereign entities on their highest value strategic challenges.”
