High Court action over killing of Irene White to continue

A civil action brought in the High Court in connection with the 2005 murder of Irene White is set to continue despite the death of the original plaintiff.

Belfast firm KRW LAW is acting for the widower of the late Anne Delcassian, who campaigned for years to bring those responsible for her late sister’s killing to justice.

Irene White was stabbed to death in her kitchen in Dundalk on 6 April 2005.

Two men were eventually prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in January 2018 and July 2019 respectively.

Following the criminal trials, Mrs Delcassian issued civil proceedings against her brother-in-law — Irene’s husband, Allan White — but died shortly afterwards.

Mrs Justice Denise Brett this week granted an application allowing her widower, Kenneth Delcassian, to be substituted as plaintiff in the case.

Ruaidhri Giblin BL appeared on behalf of Mr Delcassian in Monday’s hearing.

Speaking afterwards, Kevin Winters, the solicitor representing Mr Delcassian, said: “It was always Anne’s wish to persist with this case.

“Although she did not live to see it through, she had the quiet satisfaction of knowing that she got it off the ground before she sadly passed away.

“She always knew the case was in good hands with her husband Keni.

“This latest application is an important and indeed poignant one to allow Keni to take up where Anne left off.”

Mr Delcassian added: “I am very pleased to learn of the High Court ruling which entitles me to take over the case on behalf of my dear wife.

“I’m absolutely determined to see this case through. I gave a promise and commitment to my late wife that I’d finish what she started.

“She fought for years for justice for her sister. There is unfinished business here.

“I look forward to the next stages and am proud to carry the torch of justice lit by my wife. I won’t let her or Irene down.”

Mr White has denied any involvement in his late wife’s murder.
