NI: Flanagan to speak at Finucane Memorial Lecture
Irish Foreign affairs minister Charlie Flanagan TD is to deliver the annual Pat Finucane Memorial Lecture in Belfast on Thursday 23 February, Mark Thompson, director of the human rights group Relatives for Justice, has announced.
Thompson revealed the Irish Government speaker on Sunday at a vigil attended by Pat’s family in north Belfast marking the 28th anniversary of the civil rights solicitor’s assassination.
Speaking close to where Pat Finucane was murdered in front of his wife Geraldine, who was wounded, and the couple’s three children, Fr Raymond Murray challenged the British Government to order an “independent, international inquiry” into Finucane’s killing and the alleged collusion surrounding it.
The event will take place at the Europa Hotel, Belfast on February 23 at 6.30pm.
