NI: Far-right leader in Belfast court case appeals for Trump's intervention

A far-right leader who will appear in Belfast Magistrates’ Court next month has appealed to US President Donald Trump to intervene.

Jayda Fransen, 31, made UK-wide headlines yesterday after the President retweeted videos from her page which she claimed showed Muslims committing crimes in parts of Europe.

Ms Fransen is set to appear in court in Belfast on 14 December in connection with using “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour” at a rally outside Belfast City Hall in August.

She is also currently on bail awaiting trial next year on charges of religiously aggravated harassment in Kent.

In a video message published online, Ms Fransen claimed she was “facing prison for giving a speech in which I criticised Islam”.

Addressing Trump, she said: “I am appealing to you for your help - I am appealing for your intervention before I am thrown in jail and others receive the same treatment for simply speaking out.”
