Diamond Heron Solicitors has welcomed Lorraine Keown as a solicitor in the Belfast-based firm’s litigation team.

Ms Keown, who has 15 years’ experience as a solicitor, will work on both plaintiff and defence cases.

She began her career working in family and criminal law before shifting her career towards general litigation.

The firm said: “Lorraine’s vast and varied background in law gives her a great depth of experience that she readily applies to her day-to-day practice. She is industrious and known for her ‘straight up’ approach.”

Ms Keown has worked within the High Court and County Court, and also has experience in the Court of Appeal and the UK Supreme Court.

In 2022, she took a three-year secondment to act as solicitor to a public inquiry, having previously represented a number of bodies in other inquiries.

She has worked in a number of judicial review and governance cases and has maintained her previous criminal law experience by representing clients in fatal accident and regulatory compliance cases involving the HSE.

Ms Keown has been qualified as an advanced advocate since 2014, undertaking a great deal of her own court work.

She has been a member of the Law Society of Northern Ireland’s Children Order Panel since 2014, as well as being on the panel of the Children’s Court Guardian Agency NI (formerly the Northern Ireland Guardian Ad Litem Agency) since 2016 and the Solicitors Panel of the Central Authority of Northern Ireland since 2018.

Aside from her daily practice, Ms Keown is also an executive member of the Council of the Law Society of Northern Ireland and chair of its human rights and equality committee.
