David MacAnulty appointed as NI civil service commissioner

Lawyer David MacAnulty has been appointed as a civil service commissioner for Northern Ireland.

Mr MacAnulty is one of two new commissioners appointed by Northern Ireland secretary Hilary Benn with effect from 1 October 2025.

Civil service commissioners regulate appointments to the Northern Ireland Civil Service and determine appeals brought by civil servants under the civil service code of ethics.

Mr MacAnulty has been appointed to the part-time position for a period of five years ending on 30 September 2030.

He is an inspector of Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland (CJINI).

He was previously a prosecutor within the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland (PPS).

Commissioners are paid £300 per day and do not receive a pension.
